What can I expect from my first session?
The first session is a relatively informal session to discuss your current situation and needs.
What has prompted you to seek counselling? We will discuss which therapeutic approach will suit your needs, including the number and frequency of your sessions. It is also an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little and discover whether we feel we can work together.
How long does a session last?
The sessions I offer last for 1 hour.
How long will ongoing counselling take?
While most people start to feel better after their first session, they do not usually walk away with all the answers. It is important to remember that, depending on what the nature and seriousness of the problem, it may take some time, effort and patience to resolve it.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What is discussed between us will remain confidential within the counselling session. However, there are limits to confidentiality. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I adhere to their professional code of ethics, conduct and professional practice. It is also essential that all counselling Psychotherapists receive supervision. During this time I may discuss the content of our session, although I will not mention your name, or any other factors that could lead to your identity. There are other situations that merit disclosure which I will outline when we discuss your therapy needs and your contract.
Do I give advice?
No, I offer the opportunity for you to be listened to with warmth, respect and without judgement. I aim to develop a trusting and safe environment to explore your thoughts and feelings, supporting you to move towards your goals and preferred future.
What if it is difficult for me to attend face to face sessions?
For some people the difficulties of finding appropriate transport, childcare or time to attend face to face sessions is a real issue, for this reason I also offer house calls.
Cancelation Policy
I require 24 hour notice for any cancellations.
Any cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment will be charged in full. I do however, understand that some times cancellations need to happen due to unforeseen circumstances, should that happen, I will do my best to rearrange your appointment within the same week, although there is no guarantee.
